Tuesday Night Racing

Rules & Format

Our Tuesday evening series is the heart of the HSSC windsport community.

We run an inclusive, multi-discipline handicap fleet where traditional windsurfers, foilers, wingers, and kiters all compete on the same course.

Race Schedule & Briefing

Time: Racing takes place every Tuesday evening during British Summer Time.

Briefing: The course is agreed upon at approximately 17:45 with a verbal briefing for all competitors.

The Course: Typically a 3-buoy configuration consisting of beats, reaches, and runs. Marks may be permanent club buoys or inflatable marks laid for the evening.

The Gate Start

To ensure a high-speed, fair start for a mixed fleet, we use a Gate Start (Rabbit Start) shortly after 18:00.

- A Gate Board is selected during the briefing.

- The Gate Board approaches the starting mark on a long port tack.

- Competitors must cross the start line behind the Gate Board once it is up to speed and before it reaches the windward limit.

Safety: Any competitor making contact with the Gate Board is disqualified.

Equipment & Classes

We welcome a wide variety of kit, categorised to ensure competitive racing.

Longboard Class: Open to any traditional longboard. Sails are limited to a maximum of 9.5m to maintain a level playing field.

Open Class: No equipment or size restrictions for Shortboards, Wind-foils, Wing-foils, or Kites.

Pumping & Marks: In the spirit of club racing, pumping is permitted. Touching a buoy is also permitted, provided it does not interfere with another competitor's progress.

Finishing & Results

The Finish: The finish line is typically a line 90 degrees to the final leg of the course from the last buoy.

Format: We typically aim for four races per evening, light and conditions permitting.

Scoring: Results are calculated and posted in the club bar before closing time on the night of racing.

Safety & Insurance

Duty: In the event of a rescue being required, racers are expected to assist or man the rescue boat.

Liability: All members participate at their own risk. Third-party liability insurance is mandatory for all participants to ensure the safety of our community.
