Hello everyone,

The sun is shining, the wind (at last) has gone westerly, the water is not too cold and the beach is clean. Our club is now in full flow and cracking into the summer in all its glory.
We have lots of new members and you are all very welcome at HSSC!

In March, our annual weekend maintenance was well attended and we were grateful for everyone that came down to muck-in with getting our club sparkling for the summer.

Online membership & website
Louisa has done a superb job with the new online membership system and the feedback has been very positive.  It certainly is a lot easier for us all now to join up and we can more easily manage our membership and storage of kit.

Also, our new website that went live at the end of last year has been very well received. All our booking forms, policies and operating procedures are online along with our new calendar- which we are trying to keep updated. Please use it!

Galley
The new Galley staffing system is working really well and a big thank you to everyone who helps out on Sundays. If you can please help by working just one Sunday a year in our Galley, we can all enjoy our coffees, cakes and ridiculously cheap bacon rolls.  Here is the link; https://www.hssc.net/galley-duty-calendar/ Please use the password provided to you in your welcome email to access the page.  We do have a few blank dates in July that need staffing please….:-)

Push The Boat Out
Last month, our PTBO was the most successful yet at HSSC. I think we had about 150 people out on taster sessions over the weekend and several of them have already joined our club. The effort from everyone at the club to put on such a big event like this and make it as successful as it was is so much appreciated. There are too many people to thank, but you know who you are and I think you’re all legends!!

Rescue boat
This year we aiming to gain official status from the RYA to become a recognised Inshore Powerboat training centre. We have already implemented a training course (big thanks to Tony and Rob) to get our members out in our RIBs and gain experience to operate them safely and competently.

Social events
We already have a full calendar of social events planned and look forward to seeing you all – please keep an eye out for our emails. We try not to bombard you too much but we do like to keep you informed with what is happening at HSSC. If you are not getting our email updates, please log into your members account and update your email address, or check your junk mail box.

Club extension
We now have planning permission approved and a structural engineers report for the revised drawings of our club extension. We have started to go out to tender to obtain estimates for the works, which we hope we can start at the end of this year.

Security
Please can I remind everyone to lock up the club whenever leaving- we have already found the odd door left open this year and we’ve got a lot of expensive kit in our club that we all would be devastated  if it were stolen.
It’s your club. Please look after it.

HSSC club activities
A quick summary of the sports we offer at HSSC (particularly for our newer members):

Windsurfing nights happen every Tuesday evening. Andy Gibson is  our windsurfing rear commodore (andy.gibson@pfizer.com) and there is racing that starts weekly at 6pm. The bar is open after racing and everyone is welcome.

Also on Tuesday evenings we have Stand Up Paddle Boarding too. Claudia Carney runs these sessions and is offering private tuition as well as open water sessions. Claudia has years of knowledge with both teaching and practising SUPing (and indeed windsurfing)!
Claudia can be contacted directly for information and bookings on claud_gbr279@hotmail.com

Thursday evenings we have dinghy sailing. Racing starts promptly at 18.30hrs. Anthony Elford is our sailing rear commodore. Anthony also organises the dinghy storage in the boatyard.
The bar is always open Thursday evenings and everyone is very welcome.

On Saturdays, Radek Niec continues his Kayaking sessions.  His arms are bigger than Popeye’s and he’ll get you paddling for miles in no time.
Please contact Radek on radek.niec@gmail.com for more information.

Every Sunday at 9am Hythe Cycling Club start the day with a bike ride. No matter whatever the weather, or the season- they will certainly be there!
HCC have differing groups for every level of ability and they meet outside our club for a weekly session that lasts for up to 3 hours.
Richard Foster heads up HCC. He can be contacted via his email; cycleclub2015@gmail.com

Sunday is open water sailing for everyone and dinghy racing starts at 11am.

As mentioned earlier, every Sunday, the galley is open from about 10am and apart from the incredibly good food served (generally homemade too), everything is really inexpensive.

On behalf of you committee, we thank you all for being part of our great club and we look forward to seeing everyone on the beach soon.

Best wishes,
Chris Addison
