Another happy new year to you all!

I hope you are well recovered from a brilliant Christmas and set for a great year ahead. We had a really successful time at the club leading up to Christmas with parties for the children, a festive bike ride and a packed out Soul Food Friday. Thank you to all that participated and helped out.

We have had one heck of a good year in 2017 at HSSC. Increased membership, a massive overhaul of our clubhouse, increased revenue from your support, more sports and more parties. We are extremely proud of HSSC and always strive to keep it as a vibrant family and friendly sailing club. We hope to grow from this and continue the vibe into this year with your support.

Robbie Burns
Burns Night is coming up at the end of the month – Saturday 27th January at 7.30pm will be the time we kick off our celebrations at the club. The cost to include a meal (Haggis, sausages, neeps, tatties, onion gravy and the obligatory tot of whiskey) is £7.50 per head. Please contact Morag or Suzi or any of the committee for tickets. It is always a packed night, so booking early is again recommended!

HSSC Membership
Louisa is going to be in touch soon regarding the new HSSC membership online booking system. As we said at our AGM, the year will now run from March 1st (not January 1st as previously). Last year our membership increased significantly and now we have reduced the cost of full membership for anyone under the age of 25 to half, we hope we can attract even more younger members to bring in new fresh blood to our club.

March Maintenance
As usual, we will be running a plan for everyone to come down to the club each weekend in March to muck in with some basic maintenance and repairs at HSSC. We will be in touch nearer the time but I would like to emphasise that we can only keep our club as nice as it is with your support- no matter how small it is. Please do come down at some point and help out. Every effort is really appreciated.

Galley
We are looking for old and new volunteers please to help staff the galley on Sundays please. The new website has a ‘Galley Duty Calendar’ that has the facility for you to view the available Sundays for galley duty this year and simply add your name to a vacant Sunday on the calendar – you can do this at www.hssc.net/galley-duty-calendar/. The calendar page is password protected so it is only visible for members, the password is Cake.

If you can please commit to at least one Sunday, we should be able to have another great year of superb coffees, bacon rolls and cakes! All the supplies will be ordered in advance for you. We are having a Galley meeting early in Feb with a few lovely ladies who are willing to help out as a team to ensure it all goes to plan, but we cannot provide this invaluable service to our members without your support – any questions, please email me directly at chris@arccreative.net

Soul Food Friday
Alex and Claudia are hoping to carry on with their very successful Soul Food Friday evenings this year (keep an eye out on Facebook and our website for updates). Everyone is welcome, but it does get very booked up, so reserving a place early is well recommended.

Hythe Cycling Club
Sunday mornings still kick off at 9am with a crisp Cycle ride! HCC cycle out from our club all the year – no matter what the weather! They have differing groups for every level of ability and they meet outside our club at 9am sharp every Sunday for a weekly session that lasts for up to 3 hours. Heidi Hammond is HCC’s secretary. She can be contacted on cycleclub2015@gmail.com

Our season will kick off just before Easter- the windsurfers normally are the more hardcore bunch, braving the waters as soon as the clocks change in March. The dinghy sailors 1st race will be on Easter Sunday April 1st. The roster for sailing duty’s will be released in the next few weeks. We will keep you updated via Facebook and the website for all our sports activities.

We are planning loads of events this year at HSSC that will include lots of parties, BBQs, an RYA Push The Boat Out weekend, the Ship Inn race, RNLI race, quizzes and many other events that we will keep you updated about.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the beach and using our fantastic club.

With very best wishes for 2018 on behalf of your committee,

Chris Addison.
