WINDSURFING: Team 15 Hythe Hotshots

We are the Champs!

Regular training

Fun, competitive racing

Team 15 (T15) is about encouraging as many children into windsurfing as possible, using whatever kit they can lay their hands on. There are 4 regional racing events throughout the year, and a trip to the National Team championships in October for the winner of the regional championship! The 4 classes for 2009 are 3.5m, 4.5m, 5.5m, and 6.8m. These are the maximum sail sizes that can be used with any board, which will ideally have a dagger-board or a central fin. The Bic Techno is the internationally accepted board for junior windsurfing. There are separate prizes awarded to the highest placed Techno in each class to encourage the universal use of this board. The Techno has to be used for windsurfers who progress to the RYA S.E. regional zone squad, therefore is a good investment for the future.

HSSC is home to the infamous Hythe Hotshots, RYA T15 national champions 2005-2006. Hythe Hotshots have had well over 10 windsurfers represent the S.E squad, and have had 5 represent team GBR at international events as part of the National Squad over the last few years. All have represented our club at T15 events! To be eligible for the Hotshots team, you will need to have completed a beginners windsurfing course, and be under the age of 15. You will also need to be a fully paid up member of HSSC, and you will need to join the RYA for insurance purposes. This can be done at any of the T15 events, or can be done on - see RYA link below.

It is recommended that all members have their own board and rig, however there will be a limited amount of equipment available free of charge for use at the events. You would be expected to take the kit with you to the events, and return it to the club, so a roof rack is essential for this! At present we are planning to have 3 Bic Techno`s available for use, stored at HSSC on a first come first served basis. Most newcomers would probably require 3.5m rigs or less, but a full list of club equipment is listed on a separate attachment and can be selected from that list. The person using the equipment would be responsible for its safekeeping and for putting back into storage at the club after each event.
