In fond remembrance of HSSC short-boarder Dave Bourne, who died
3/12/01, aged 40.
Dave and his family moved to Hythe from Christchurch 3
years ago when Dave took up a post as a trainer in Kent Constabulary. They
rapidly settled into the area, with all 3 of them making many friends in
the club and outside and Dave quickly getting to grips with the tougher
sailing conditions at our beach. Like many of us, Dave was also a mountain
biker, a skier and had recently taken an interest in dinghy sailing -
passing his RYA rescue boat qualification so that he could assist at the
Dover beginners' training this summer. He had also been in training for
the London Marathon. Sadly Dave developed cancer at the end of last year.
Our thoughts remain with his family, especially his wife
Claire and daughter Sophie (10). I know they can count on the support of
the many club members who remember Dave as an easy going, thoughtful and
active guy, a committed family man and windsurfer.
Andy Gibson - on behalf of all HSSC members.

Dave & Sophie seal
watching at Sandwich Bay,
December 1999.
