Dear Members Hello! If you are a new member let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the Club, if you are an existing member then thank you for your support in 2002 and here comes the new season… In 2002 sailing under went a minor revolution at HSSC. Despite the efforts of the weather we operated a full sailing programme, enjoyed a healthy turnout for our series and saw an increase in the number of competitors and the number of classes sailed. We hosted a very successful Ship race and our members competed at events across the county. The 2003 programme of events has now been finalised. Our Sunday afternoon racing begins on 6th April and is scheduled to run through until 26th October, after which Dover Water Sports Centre will host their annual Winter series - all HSSC members are welcome to enter. In addition to weekend racing, the popular Thursday evening series is programmed to run from 8th May to the 2nd October, so go on - get out of the office early and come and join us! We shall make every effort to continue to provide dinner after the racing. Volunteer chefs are always welcome. There are several large events planned this year. Our Ship Race will be on July 27th, we also plan to invite local clubs to our RNLI race on May 5th. I also hope to run two Bank Holiday Mini Series, one in late May and one in late August. Again we have kept weekends of major events free to allow members to travel to competitions which this year include a Thanet Regatta to be held at Minnis Bay on 2nd and 3rd August, Dover Regatta and the Man of Kent, all promising to be well supported. If racing isn't your thing then please feel free to come down and sail anyway. Sailing at HSSC is very informal and there are always people to ask if you are new to the competitive side of the sport. Crew List - For those members without boats and for those members without crew I hope to operate a crew list. This shall be placed on the exciting new sailing notice board and on each race day also on a blackboard outside! Please contact me for further details. Training - For those members interested in more training during 2003 there have been some changes since last year. Please see the attached sheet for details of training. Boat Hire - We have had to change the Boat Hire system for 2003. For further details please see the attached sheets. We are always keen to recruit new volunteers for driving the safety boat, instructing and assisting in race management. If anyone is interested please call me to find out what is involved.
