2003 Start of Season News: Dinghy Training.

Back to Latest News

We have a new arrangement for the 2003 season.

For several years our free beginners training has operated at Dover. The watersports centre can no longer offer the arrangement in the same way.

For 2003 therefore the free beginners sailing course for new members will be replaced by an arrangement with Dover Water Sports Centre that will benefit all club members. All HSSC members will be entitled to receive a discount, of a percentage to be finalised, on all courses operated by Dover Water Sports Centre. This will benefit any member who wishes to do a course regardless of ability.

The club will also benefit from a reciprocal arrangement whereby anyone who has taken a course at Dover will receive a 50% discount on their first year's membership fee at HSSC.

This arrangement will save the Club money, (there was a net training cost of some £1800 last year), allowing us to make a substantial investment in refitting part of the Topper fleet. We then plan to retain four Toppers solely for training purposes and two for general hire. These will be refitted and have completely new rigs. We hope to run 3 RYA level 2 and 3 courses during the summer. Please watch out for notice of these. Each course will last for 3 consecutive weekends and will be run at cost. One of these courses will be specifically for youth training.

Qualified instructors - we need your help to run these training sessions - please see Peter Wright or Colin Gough.

HIRE OF BOATS

Two Toppers and one Laser will be available for general hire this season. The boats will only be available for hire from the duty officer. Charges for the hire boats are also being reviewed as recently the fees have been insufficient to cover the maintenance costs.

All club boats will be available to hire for club open events.
