![]() 2003 Start of Season News: Welcome back! |
Here it is once again - the dreaded letter that means it is membership renewal time. Even though there has been little happening in the way of sailing and windsurfing the new HSSC committee has not been idle. We have already held several very productive meetings and hope that some of the proposed changes we plan to make will be well supported and lead to an even more successful club in 2003, if that is possible. Some of the changes may at first seem a little harsh but all these things are being introduced to try and improve the "Clubby" atmosphere, for which HSSC is so well known, and to relieve pressures in certain areas. We do hope that all members will abide by the new way of doing things - no where is this more important that with regard to the hiring of the club premises, an increasingly popular activity and the borrowing of Club property. We cannot find ourselves in the same situation as we did on Boxing Day when we had 50 people purchasing lunch and only one table on which to serve it!!! Anyone who has any concerns or queries regarding any of the new ways of doing things should contact any member of the committee who will be happy to discuss or explain. In order to build on the "clubby" spirit the committee has agreed to run the club on a completely voluntary basis this year - all bar, galley and training duties will be carried out by volunteers and all profits used to benefit the club. We therefore ask all members to give their full support in whatever way they feel they can - helping with the rescue boats, assisting with training, making cakes, etc. to sell at the galley or simply coming to the club and supporting us by being there. - remember "every little helps." Please take the time to think about what our Club has to offer - the relaxed atmosphere where you can share a cheap drink/ a meal with like minded people, the unique position right on the beach - ideal for family days out, the opportunity to learn new skills and exchange tips with others. Now you have considered these, please take time to fill in your membership form and also the equipment storage form, if applicable, and send them back to us as soon as possible. Once you have filled in your membership form don't forget to log on to the website and join the mailing list, if you have not already done so. The mailing list is becoming a popular way of informing our members of what is going on at HSSC make sure you get to know by joining the mailing list and checking your e mails. Membership forms, boat/board stickers and the new door code will be issued as soon as practicable after receipt of your fees. Forms can be posted to the sailing club, address below, left in the tray at the end of the bar or given to any committee member. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to e-mail Gill. Don't forget to try and come along any weekend during March and help the house committee with the maintenance of your club, enjoy the companionship of your fellow members over a free lunch and bring your membership form at the same time saving yourselves a stamp!!! We are looking forward to the coming year and hope that we will get the opportunity to renew old acquaintances and meet many new members at the various events we have planned. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns or suggestions for the Club. We have provided a box at the end of the bar for this purpose. |
