French evening
Our next social is a french evening on saturday 3rd may starting at 7.30pm. Linda has promised us a meal of coq au vin, with new potatoes followed by french bread and cheese. All this for only £2.50 per head. Once again children will be well catered for with chicken nuggets, sausages or something similar. So do come along and join in with what promises to be a very interesting evening. If you wish to dress up in an appropriate manner to help give the club even more of a french feel please do so. I am sure our commodore will appreciate it.

Dinghy park
The dinghy park, as i am sure you have noticed is now full. If you have not already paid your storage charges and been allocated a number please do not assume you will be able to have a space this season. We are currently working on ways to create more spaces but we can't work miracles. Please, therefore check with us before you bring boats to the club. Thank you for your understanding.

Unclaimed equipment
It is essential that we get the best possible use of the space in the dinghy park and preference must be given to active boats. We have several windsurf boards stored at the front of the club-no one knows who these belong to. The same applies to some kayaks in the dinghy park. As no storage fees have been paid for these items, and we need the space, if they are not claimed and removed by 30th june they will be disposed off. As part of the re-organisation of the storage areas the committee have decided to try and sell the orange committee boat. If anyone knows of anyone who may be interested please let us know as soon as possible.

RNLI day
The next sailing event is our annual rnli race to be held on monday 5th may. The sailing race will start at 1400 hrs. We hope to run two races but this of course is weather dependent. If you have a two man boat but no crew or want to sail but have no boat please come down anyway and we shall try to get you afloat. An entrance fee will be charged which together with the galley profit for the day will be donated to the RNLI. Unfortunately I have no details as to what time the windsurfing racing will take place but please come down and i am sure it will happen at some time during the day. Windsurfers are always welcome to join in with the dinghy racing at any time.

The galley will be open from 12.30 on monday 5th may so anyone who feels like making cakes, sandwiches etc would be very welcome. Also i would be very pleased to hear from anyone would be willing to help out for an hour or so with making teas, coffee etc on the day. Please call gill on 01304 331081 or simply turn up on the day and make yourself available.

Rum race
The rum race which had been postponed from boxing day, due to bad weather, finally took place on easter monday. Peter would like to thank all those who turned out and with 14 boats on the water competition was tough but colin gough showed the wannabes how it is done with a faultless race to take home the 1st prize of a bottle of captains morgans. 2nd place went to stuart bishop of downs sc closely followed by our own tom coley. It was good to see 4 windsurfers also joining in with andy gibson taking the windsurfing honours.

Door code
Please note that the entry door code will be changed with effect from 1st may 2003. If you have already renewed your membership you will have the new code on the bottom of your membership card. If you have not yet received a card please contact gill on 01304 331081. Obviously if you have not yet paid your membership for 2003 please do so as soon as possible.

Galley
I hope to open the galley on a tuesday evening for a meal after windsurfing, a thursday for a meal after sailing and a sunday from 12.30 until 2pm and then from 3.30 until 5pm. If anyone is willing to help out so we can form a rota i would be very pleased to hear from them. Please be assured you will not be expected to cope on your own. We already have a few willing helpers.

Weather station
Graeme fuller has kindly lauched a project to re -instate a weather station at the club. Graeme has also offered to subsidise a large proportion of the set up costs. Anyone who could assist graeme in this technically demanding task will be very welcome. The committee are sure that this project will be welcomed by all club members once it is installed.

Rock groin
The committee have had several meetings with the council regarding the proposed rock groin which is to be built. As a result of these meetings we have managed to get the council to agree to build this groin, which will be similar to that by the imperial, at the end of stade street rather than just in front of the club. We believe that this will have little or no effect on our sailing conditions. It is our understanding that this work will commence towards the end of this season.

Maintenance weekends
We would like to thank all those who gave up their precious time to help with the maintenance of the club during march. Anyone who didn't help missed out on some fantastic and friendly brunches. Particular thanks to phil hards for all his work.

Contacting the committee
All committee members have trays at the end of the bar. These trays are checked regularly. If you need to leave a message for a member of the committee this is the best way. If you are not sure who you need the committee is listed at the top of the stairs from the changing rooms.
