Summer Party
This year the summer party will be held on 19th July from 6.00pm onwards -
tickets for this very popular event will soon be on sale - further details
will be displayed on the club notice board and on the web site.
Unclaimed
Equipment
It is essential that we get the best possible use of the space in the
dinghy park and preference must be given to active boats. We have several
windsurf boards stored at the front of the Club-no one knows who these
belong to. The same applies to some kayaks. As no storage fees have been
paid for these items, and we need the space, if they are not claimed and
removed by 30th June they will be disposed off. As part of the
re-organisation of the storage areas the committee have decided to try and
sell the orange committee boat. If anyone knows of anyone who may be
interested please let us know as soon as possible.
Club Premises /
Equipment
Please treat all club property and premises as if it were your own. We
expect club members to leave the place as clean and tidy or even tidier
than they found it. This applies also to parents of children please ensure
you tidy up after the children you are responsible for. If you see anyone
not respecting this rule please gently remind him/her directly.
Unfortunately it is once again necessary to remind members that club
equipment of any kind SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED from the premises
Visitting Boat
We have been approached by some people who wish to sail a Hobie Tiger from
the Kent coast to the Sicily Isles. As we feel we should encourage
visitors undertaking a challenge this vessel will be visiting our club on
30th June. Final details are to be arranged.
Team 15 at Bewl
Water
Congratulations to Hythe Hotshots: Jack Brooks 3.5m Class; Claudia Carney
3.5m Class; Daniel Harding 3.5m Class; William Hurrel 3.5m Class; Andrew
Petts 3.5m Class; Mark Homewood 4.5m Class; Lucy Stewart 4.5m Class;
Adrianne Fuller 4.5m Class; Oliver Brooks 6.5m; Elliot Carney 6.5m Class
who on a blistering hot and windy day, represented HSSC at Bewl- renowned
for its tricky wind conditions and difficulty in competing against tough
local opposition with intimate knowledge of which way to catch those
lifts! Special mentions go to Elliot Carney who achieved a 2nd position in
the highly competitive 6.5m class, Lucy stewart 3rd overall and 1st girl
in the 4.5m class and Andrew Petts who was 3rd in the 3.5m class. The team
gained 3rd place overall. This was an excellent performance from our very
young and new team, three quarters of whom had never raced before! It was
a steep learning curve for many of the youngsters but they all rose to the
occasion in their new red team vests-well done everyone-you were indeed
hot. For pictures of this event please see www.hssc.net. The committee
would like to thank Mark Brooks for all the time and effort he has given
team 15 this year.
Duty Officer
With effect from 31st May there will be a duty officer at the Club 1300
-1700 hrs on Saturdays and 1000 -1700 hrs on a Sunday. All members are
reminded that it is not the duty officers responsibility to clear up after
you. Our thanks to those who volunteered or rather did not say no quickly
enough!
Equiment Storage
The club is now full, with over 150 stickers being issued for storage of
equipment-each sticker representing one windsurf rack or one boat park
slot. The Dinghy park is gradually getting under control with the number
of offending boats having been reduced from 9 to 2-hopefully 0 by July. A
waiting list has now been put in place. The layout of the dinghy park may
change again in order to optimise the capacity. In the meantime we would
be grateful if anyone is speaking to potential new members to make them
aware that equipment storage is a problem at the present time
Mail Delivery
It has come to our attention that mail has gone missing and some returned
undeliverable. There seems to have been a particular problem during March.
This has resulted in some membership renewals not having been received and
also our contract with Cleanaway being suspended. These problems are in
the process of being sorted out. If you know of anyone who has not
received their membership cards and is not receiving newsletters please
ask them to contact Gill as soon as possible. All post should be addressed
to HSSC, Marine Parade, Hythe, Kent CT21 6AW
Club Spirit
The HSSC committee firmly believes that for the club to run successfully
we must build on the club spirit. This was endorsed by a members vote at
the AGM. We would like to take this opportunity to remind all members that
this is their club and therefore if they see something needs doing please
do it - don't assume someone else will-this applies to the mowing of the
grass, the laying of race buoys, putting away of the rescue boat etc-if
members are not prepared to help in this way then unfortunately these jobs
will have to be rostered which is something the committee are keen to
avoid. If the club is to continue to thrive all members need to play their
part.
Team 15 Training
Training for all T15 members and any interested HSSC members under 15 is
available on Monday evenings at Redoubt 6pm-8pm throughout May, June and
July. Redoubt members are free but a charge of £5 per session to cover
the lake fee is necessary for all non members. Everyone who is not a
Redoubt member, including parents must sign an indemnity form. Anyone
wishing to help is most welcome-particularly any windsurfing coaches!!
There has been a rule change which now states anyone under 15 on the day
of the race is eligible. For those parents interested in Team 15 training
please let mark Brooks have your mobile number. This is so a text message
can be sent to give notice of training events. The narrow wind range
within which training can take place and the British climate means that
there is always a likelihood of cancellation and opportunities for
rearranged times and additional dates, occurring at short notice. For
further information please contact Mark Brooks
