New
Years Eve Party (24/11/08)
What to do with all those fireworks that
were no let off on Bonfire night? Well - you'll be pleased to hear that we
are now organising a New Years Eve Party this year, commencing with a grand
fireworks display at 6.00 pm. There will also be food and music. Latest:
as we have been unable to find anyone to do the bar, please bring your own
drink.
CANCELLED:
Bonfire/Fireworks
Party (05/11/08)
Dear all. It
is with considerable regret that we are having to cancel the bonfire party
tonight due to adverse weather conditions. Unfortunately the forecast of
increasingly strong to gale force onshore winds coupled with restricted
space on the beach because of the time of high water, puts the event outside
acceptable safety margins. We appreciate that members will be disappointed
and the decision has not been taken lightly. However we do have to be
mindful of potential risks to members, safety, the club and neighbours’
premises when hosting this type of event. We
are planning instead to retain the fireworks for a New Year’s Eve
extravaganza – so make a note of this in your diary and look out for
further details. Best wishes. Jeremy
Annual
General Meeting Saturday 1st November (30/10/08) (by
Jeremy Speakman)
This is a reminder for the AGM next
Saturday 1st November at 6pm. Please notify me in advance of the meeting of
items for inclusion under Any Other Business as we will not be dealing with
items not previously notified. As previously circulated, we are looking for
nominations for Social Secretary, Hon Secretary and Publicity Officer. These
are critical to the proper functioning of the club and I do appeal to any
member who might be interested in standing to please get in touch. I am only
looking for an expression of interest rather than a firm commitment at this
stage and attached is a briefing on the responsibilities of these roles
which I appreciate at first glance may appear a little daunting. However the
committee will fully support your induction into the role and help make the
task less daunting by enabling the setting up of sub committees and/or
sharing the role. I can not emphasise
enough how important it is that these positions are filled in order to
ensure that the club continues to thrive. We have always managed to cover
some vacant positions but we are now below a sustainable minimum. Best
wishes. Jeremy"
Ship
Race and Social Update (20/08/08)
The Ship Race which was postponed for
dinghies earlier in the season due to bad weather will now be run on Bank
Holiday Monday (25 August) – Start time 12 noon. This will also coincide
with the Sandgate Festival and so should be a good fun event. As usual would
be grateful for volunteers for rescue boat/race officer on the day.
Also, our next social event -
Quiz Night - has been changed to Saturday 27th September. 7pm start. £5 per
person, to include a fish and chip supper.
Hythe Hotshots
through to National Championships (08/08/08) (by
Phil Hards)
Hythe Hotshots junior windsurfers have
again secured the South east regional championship by winning 3 of the 4
events held throughout the summer. The victorious team will now represent
the region at the National championships at Rutland water in October, an
event they have won twice in the last 3 years. This year the hotshots
fielded their largest ever team and have high hopes for further success in
October. The Hotshots team also had a great day out at Folkestone recently
and met the infamous Seagull. A demonstration of windsurfing and Paddling!
was put on for the locals and the team raised £150 pounds for the club in
the process. Click here for photos
New HSSC Signs
(08/08/08)
You may (or may not!) have noticed that
HSSC is now sporting two brand new signs: the large balcony sign and the
smaller one on the rear of the building. And very nice they look, too. These
to replace the old ones which were looking rather shabby. These signs are

Junior Windsurfing Training 2008 (06/04/08)
(by Phil Hards)
Hythe Hotshots T15
Team 15 training will commence on Sat
26th April either at HSSC or the lake. If we use the lake there will be the
usual £5 launching fee for those not a member of their club. On the 27th we
are straight into the 1st event at Bewl reservoir! Let`s get the season off
to a flyer with a good turnout. T15 members are welcome to freesail at the
beginner/intermediate sessions during the summer but will not be supervised.
There will be HSSC coach support at all of the
training/events listed.
Zone/National squad
Our zone and national squad windsurfers are welcome to join in with the
T15 training. Tuesday night racing has already commenced, racing starts at
18.00 hours sharp! on the water. Graeme Fuller has kindly offered his
services for 3 advanced race tactics workshops in May. For aspiring racers
these are not to be missed. Bring your notebooks with you! We are aiming to
provide some 1 on 1 sessions throughout the year when possible,
concentrating on boardhandling, and race tactics.
Beginner/intermediate
training
Training starts on Thursday nights in June and sessions will be strictly
limited to groups of ten, selected by experience. Details/application forms
will be available soon. We would like to sign up last years beginners for
the Hythe Hotshots T15 team for our home event in July! So watch out.

mail me. Phil Hards. Click

Dinghy
Park Resurfacing (11/02/08)
(by Peter Wright)
As you will have read in the membership
renewal packs, we are planning to lay a hard surface in the dinghy park
which will help with drainage, keep weeds down, and generally improve look
of the club. The work being planned is substantial and will require boats to
be removed for a short time. At present we expect that work will commence in
late February to be completed by start of the season on 23rd March. Further
details will be sent out shortly. We also plan to replace the dinghy park
fence, which, despite our best efforts with maintenance, is now in a poor
condition.

Happy
New Year (02/02/08)
A very happy New Year once again (blimey
that way quick!) from your one man web team. Its that time of year when we
can all start to really look forward to the forthcoming season. It may be
cold right now, but the days are getting ever longer, and the new sailing
and windsurfing season is getting ever closer. Let's hope that 2008 is a
fantastic year for us all. MDM.
