News (18/09/04 by Mark
Brooks)
On Saturday 4th September Club Commodore Antoine Breton was presented with a
grant for £5000 to provide the club with a rescue boat. This represents the
largest single grant obtained by the club since its opening. The money
released by this generous donation will be used to promote the current
highly successful windsurfing training and racing development (Team 15)
programme.
The KCC funds became available as a result of a reduction in
the community charge on second homes in Kent. Chris Capon securing
significant funds for community projects in the Hythe area. Speeches were
given by Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart (Chairman of KCC Members Committee) and
Michael Howard MP (Shadow Primeminister) also present at the reception were
the Chair of the Shepway County Council and Hythe County Councilor, Chris
Capon. Our considerable thanks go to the Green family for alerting the club
to this potential source of funding and to Mark Brooks for the time spent in
securing the grant on the club’s behalf.

A reminder to members that our long distance race to The Ship Inn, Sandgate,
is next Sunday, 29th August. Do come and join in this fantastic event, or if
not, at least come along and support us. It's usually the busiest day of the
year, and a chance to see more boats and windsurfers on the water than at
any other time. The following weekend (04/09/04), is the Wimereux
windsurfing race. If you are thinking of goin to France to compete this
year, please see Antoine. Finally, our end of season party has been moved
from its original date, clashing with Wimereux, to Saturday 18th September,
7.30 pm. Another chance to party-hard HSSC-style!

Hythe Hotshots, 2nd Claudia Carney - Hythe Hotshots. 5.5 Class: 3rd Ed
Britten - Hythe Hotshots. 6.6 Class: Unfortunately Elliot Carney was

Congratulations to William Lama who made excellent progress
throughout the day. Our heart felt sympathies to William Hurrell who,

time!
TEAM RESULTS
1. Aquasports Aquanauts - 19pts
2. Hythe Hotshots - 17pts

A highly respectable result, especially as we were less than half the size

With Elliot Carney in the 6.6m Class we are destined to win the team trophy
at the next event.

Big
Charity Fundrasining Party on Saturday 8th May (10/04/04)
HSSC Members and friends. On Saturday 8th May, HSSC will be hosting a
big party to raise money for the "Wooden Spoon" charity for
disabled and disadvantaged children. Entry is £5.00 for adults and £2.00
for children, with all proceeds going to the charity, and includes disco and
buffet meal. The bar will also be open, of course. Please do make every
effort to come to this event, which promises to be a fantastic evening, and
for a very good cause indeed. Please put this date in your diaries so you
don't forget. The event is being organised my HSSC member Eric Fuggle who,
later in May, will be competing in the "Great Lakeland Challenge"
for the same charity. This event includes a long row, cycle and mountain
climb in some very tough terrain, so this will also be a good opportunity to
wish him all the best for that.
Tickets are available in advance or on the door. For more
info please complete our mail form.
Prizes are also needed for the raffle, so if you have anything you might
like to donate, please let us know.
About the Charity: The "Wooden Spoon" is the
Charity of British and Irish Rugby, and has recently celebrated its 20th
year of supporting disadvantaged children. Since it began, the charity has
distributed over £8 million to national and local projects, organised over
1000 fundraising events, and has over 9000 members. The Great Lakeland
Challenge is the biggest event of the year for the Wooden Spoon, and covers
the longest lake (10.5 miles canoeing), the steepest pass (26 miles cycling)
and the highest mountain (climbing Scafell Pike at 3208 ft) in the Lake
District - and all in 12 hours! More info on the Charity and its projects is available at HSSC.
