Saturday 29th July 2006. A
very windy day...
Gordon's 505 overturns in the shore break.

A large wave smashes against the 5-0 as Gordon aattempts to launch.

The boat overturns throwing the crew overboard.

Fellow sailors rush to aid...

...but struggle to control the boat in the shore-break.

More help soon arrives...

...and gradually the boat is pulled out to sea...

...and away from the breaking waves.

Then, with a moment's breathing space, the team start to right the boat.

They struggle to insert the center-board.

The center-board in place, they are ready to climb on.

With sufficient pressure on the center-board, the 5-0 begins to right...

...but large waves continue to pound the 5-0, turning it over again.

Finally, brute strength prevails and the mast clears the water.

The swamped 5-0 now upright, the crew quickly board to sail her offshore.

As the boat pulls away, the self bailers empty the flooded hull.

And finally she is clear.

Jib in tatters, the 5-0 returns to the beach. Amazingly the mast is still
intact.
