Some of you may know that Folkestone now has a new beach. It was constructed during the summer as part of the coastal protection works. One rock groin - opposite the Mermaids restaurant in the Lower Leas Costal Park - was extended towards the SE, and the lea side pumped with shingle and sand to form the new beach. Commodore Antoine Breton was the first to land here; his Hobie can be seen in the photo. Antoine reckons this gives him the right to name the new beach, which he has decided to call "Mills Point Creek" (So Shepway Council, take note, please!). Windsurfers note that the extended groin provides a flat water gybing area even at high tide - so this might be well worth checking out (although I have no idea if this is a good/safe spot or not!)
