The latest from the Commodore

Dear all,

Summer is really on its way and it is so good to see everyone down at our posh newly refurbished club.

The turnout from you all in March helping with the club maintenance was excellent. Credit has to also go to Marc Carney too for his massive efforts in getting our club back to be the best on the south coast. It is all really appreciated.

In case you have not seen the recent overhaul, please come down for a coffee and one of Sharon and Mary’s lovely bacon rolls.

There’s a great buzz at the club and you will be most welcome.

This year we have 5 sports at HSSC!

On Tuesday evenings we continue with our windsurfing. Andy Gibson is  our windsurfing rear commodore ( and there is racing that starts weekly at 6pm. The bar is open after racing and everyone is welcome.

Also on Tuesday evenings this year we are adding Stand Up Paddle Boarding too. Claudia Carney is heading up the SUPing and is offering private tuition as well as open water sessions. Claudia has years of knowledge with both teaching and practising SUPing (and indeed windsurfing)!  Claudia can be contacted directly for info and bookings on

Thursday evenings we have Dinghy sailing (windsurfers also very welcome to be included in the race that starts at 6.30pm). Anthony Elford is our sailing rear commodore and he also superbly organises the dinghy storage in the boatyard.  (Contactable on his email, The bar is always open Thu evenings and Mary and Sharon often lay on one of their lovely dinners after the racing.

On Saturdays, Radek Niec has started up offering Kayaking sessions.  Radek has years of experience and his enthusiasm is contagious.  Please contact Radek on for more information.

Sunday kicks off at 9am with a nice Cycle ride!  HCC (Hythe Cycling Club) have differing groups for every level of ability and they meet outside our club for a weekly session that lasts for up to 3 hours.  Heidi Hammond is HCC’s secretary. She can be contacted on

Sunday is open water sailing for everyone and dinghy racing starts at 11am.

We are also trying to set up a swimming session on Saturdays at the club too- will keep you posted!

Sundays, the galley is open from about 10am and apart from the incredibly good food served (generally homemade too), everything is really inexpensive.  We are always looking for volunteers to help out in the galley – if you can please spare a few hours one Sunday this year, it will be really appreciated. Everyone at the club is a volunteer!  Jane Mackenzie kindly sorts out the Galley rota of staff and can be contacted on

Our first open event at the club is Push The Boat Out. This event is over the 13/14th May and we are encouraging people to have a free taster at one of our watersports- so please encourage your friends along!  On the Saturday 13th evening we are holding an American Supper too and the bar will be open. Should be a great evening!

We will be in touch over the summer with more events and look forward to seeing everyone on the beach and using our fantastic club.

Best wishes,

Chris Addison
